Guidelines for Research Abstracts for the ICEEP 10 Meeting

The committees of ICEEP 10 are inviting abstracts describing original research related to the science and practice of topics relevant to equine exercise. Abstract submissions will be reviewed and delegated into one of two types of communications:

  1. Oral presentation – Oral presentations will comprise 15 minutes duration, of which 12 minutes should be dedicated to presentation of the abstract information, and 3 minutes to answering relevant questions.
  2. Poster presentation – Posters should be 'A0 size' (80 cm HORIZONTAL x 120 cm VERTICAL in dimension) to accommodate the area in which they will displayed. Posters are expected to be available for viewing throughout the duration of the meeting, and during specified periods it is expected that posters will be attended by one or more of the authors to answer specific questions regarding content.

All abstracts are written and presented in English. Linguistic accuracy is the responsibility of the authors. Please provide doses and measurements in metric (SI) units with /kg bwt added where appropriate. Abstracts must not exceed 250 words, excluding title, names and affiliations. The maximum overall number of allowed keystrokes (characters with spaces) is 2,250 leaving approximately 500 keystrokes for title, authors and affiliations. If the latter exceeds 500 keystrokes, the available keystrokes for the abstract text are reduced accordingly. Please ensure you check your word count manually using a word processing program, as submission of abstracts over 250 words that are subsequently accepted may be viewed as prior publication by many scientific journals, preventing future acceptance of full length manuscripts relevant to the work.

Please do not include tables, figures, keywords, or references.

Abstracts exceeding the word limit or which have particularly poor grammatical construction will be rejected. Abstracts describing previously published material will not be considered.

Abstracts will be organized in the online submission system via the following protocol:

Selected reviewers with a high level of expertise in the relevant fields will decide whether abstracts are accepted (with amendments, if necessary) and, if accepted, whether they should be presented verbally or as posters. They will also assign abstracts selected for verbal presentation to the most appropriate sessions for the symposium. The decision on acceptance or rejection by the ICEEP editorial committee is final.

The presenting author should be indicated carefully. Be aware that if this presenting author, or a designated co-author replacement does not register for the ICEEP 10 conference by August 15, 2018, the contribution will be removed from the programme and the published abstract compilation.

Abstracts will be submitted through OASES, the Wageningen Academic Publishers Online Academic Submission & Evaluation System at:

Any questions regarding abstract content should be directed to the abstract program chair, Erica McKenzie, via email at

Online support service for questions of a technical nature regarding the online submission process can be obtained through the submission website or by emailing

Received abstracts will be reviewed according to subject categories and assessed for scientific content, relevance to equine exercise physiology, methodology, statistical analysis, adherence to animal welfare regulations, and adherence to formatting guidelines.

Authors may serve as the primary or presenting author on no more than two abstract submissions. Multiple submissions from a specific primary author will be reviewed in the order received and additional submissions beyond the sum of two for any specific author will not be reviewed. Primary authors may, however, serve as co-authors on an unlimited number of additional abstract submissions as long as they do not present the research.

Abstracts submitted by the deadline (January 31, 2018) will be disseminated to reviewers appointed by the International Committee and blinded to author names and affiliations.

Authors will be notified of the decision as to whether their abstract has been accepted for oral or poster presentation by April 1, 2018, and abstract corrections (if necessary) will be requested from authors at this time, with a mandatory deadline for resubmission of corrected abstracts by May 1, 2018.

A final decision regarding acceptance of your abstract and mode of presentation will be provided to you by email no later than June 1, 2018.
